Why You Should Visit The Waco Farmers Market

This weekend, my sister and I made another visit to the Waco Farmer’s Market, and I thought, we need to share how great this place is on the blog.

The first time I went to the farmer’s market, they were located along the Brazos River. I brought Schmidt along, and he was whining and pulling at me because of all the smells and sights. It was a really hot day, and I really didn’t know anyone yet.

My friends told me I needed to try a Sergio’s burrito, which I did try. It was absolutely amazing. Schmidt really loved eating my leftovers.

We were in a pretty big group, so I didn’t really have time to visit each shop individually, so of course, the next time my sisters came down, we went back.

My first purchase was peaches. I grew up around peach trees, and I hadn’t had a fresh peach in ages. I love the taste of fresh produce, and the farmer’s market has an abundant supply.

The farmer’s market relocated to Washington Ave. while construction crews are working on a new riverfront project (which I am so excited for, by the way).

Over the last two years, the farmer’s market has grown so much. I love spending Saturday mornings sipping local coffee and supporting local farmers. For a full list of vendors, click here.

This Saturday, we were looking for specific items. We are on the ketogenic diet, so we can only eat a handful of vegetables. We ended up buying some fresh jalapenos (for my famous jalapeno popper recipe) and blackberries from Lightsey Farms in Mexia.

The Waco Farmer’s Marker is full of food vendors, so you don’t have to worry about being hungry. If you want to get breakfast though, Cafe Cappuccino is across the street. If you like omelets and Philly cheesesteaks, try the Newman (it’s Keto-Friendly).

I also love to buy plants from farmer’s market.

In the past month, I have bought way too many plants, so I had to refrain. I still took photos though!

If you are in town for a weekend, be sure to stop by! What is your favorite thing to purchase at a farmer’s market?
