DIY: Pom Pom Bookmarks

I never hear people say, “Man, I wish I read less.” Everyone I know, including myself, is always trying to read more. I have a stack of books that I have been meaning to read for the last year.

However, I tend to buy a new book and neglect the stack, time and time again. So, I thought – how am I supposed to motivate myself to read these books that have been sitting here this entire time?

People always say you should buy new gym clothes to encourage yourself to go to the gym more often. I wanted to apply that concept to books – but I am having a very frugal year.

I went into my craft room, and I decided to make my own cute bookmarks out of pom poms. After Blogmas and Blogtober crafting, I have so much yarn, and it seemed like a very easy project. These pom pom bookmarks are also really easy to make – so be sure to give one to your fellow book-loving friend!

YOU WILL NEED

Yarn

Scissors

A book that needs to be read

INSTRUCTIONS

Cut a piece of yarn that will be the length of your bookmark. You will be wrapping this piece around your pom pom too, so be sure make it long enough. It is better to cut it later than not have enough string for your bookmark.

Start wrapping the yarn around your four fingers about 50 times. Be sure to wrap it loosely enough for you to secure the piece of string you cut around it.

Grab the piece of yarn you cut and thread it through between the middle of your fingers. Tie a knot in the middle of the wrapped yarn. Take it off your hand and tie it again, making sure it is very tight.

Spread out the yarn until it creates a nice little ball. With the scissors, cut the loops to where it looks like a pom pom. Be careful to not cut the bookmark string!

This will make it the initial pom pom shape. Be sure to fluff it up!

Then, trim the pom pom until it looks like the shape you want! After you are done, grab your favorite book and use your new pom pom bookmark to keep your place! I think the key is to cut the pom pom short!

Now that you have your bookmark – let me know what book I should read in the comments below!
