This Texas corn maze left me exhausted, but the pumpkin patch left my Instagram poppin’

I love spontaneous adventures, and when I randomly saw a Texas Monthly article about a giant corn maze an hour and a half from where I live – I had to check it out. The place is called Lone Star Family Farms.

Now, it was 95 degrees, and I was wearing pants, so let me not pretend that I am smart. But in my defense, I am going to be out of town every weekend in October (and the one weekend I am here my biffle is getting married).

Anyways, so my sister and I loaded up into my car and started driving towards Stephenville, TX.

ROAD TRIPPIN’

We learned really quickly that Stephenville is home to Tarleton State – but not much else. They have a barbecue joint that smelled really good, but we ended up stopping in Hico on our way to have some pie at another Texas Monthly recognized establishment: The Koffee Kup Kafe.

Our theme quickly became if Texas Monthly likes it, we are going to get it.

They are known for their pies and their chicken fried steaks – and their burgers. It’s a cash-only cafe, which seriously brought me back to my small-town living vibes. Courtney got the steak; I got the burger; and we shared a slice of pie.

The food came with curly fries, so I was immediately sold. My burger tasted like a jalapeno popper, so obviously, it was a winner for me.

We got a slice of chocolate pie, and we both agreed that although it was good, it doesn’t hold a candle to our nana’s pie. Or even Tommy Oliver’s pies in his store in Windom, Texas that we frequented as kids.

LONE STAR FAMILY FARM

After we pigged out, we kept on trucking into Stephenville. There wasn’t a ton of people at the Lone Star Family Farm on Sunday, but it’s probably on account that it was 96 degrees outside.

Immediately, you can tell that this place is overflowing with photo opportunities. They have pumpkin staged in every which way, and if you are an Influencer or a proud mama – this is the place to be.

They also had a small animal farm, snacks, games and a corn pit.

But the main attraction? The giant corn maze that is sponsored by Texas Monthly this year.

I had the brilliant idea of going through the maze first, so that when we took photos, the sun would had gone down a little, and it would make for better lighting.

I am an idiot.

Then, I had another really stupid idea. I decided that we shouldn’t download the maze map because it would be more fun to figure it out.

Y’all – sometimes my enthusiasm for the unknown leads me to bad decisions. The first 20 minutes of the maze were full of hope and wonder, and then it quickly shifted to despair.

It was hot. We were lost.

I actually came to the point where I accepted the fact that this was my new life. This was it. I was going to live in this corn maze. I was going to become corn.

But then, we saw the road and ran for it. Literally, I wish it wouldn’t have been so hot because it would have been so fun. Next year, I will plan better.

And then when we took photos, I was dripping in sweat. I’m telling you guys, sometimes I am on it. But when I am not, I AM NOT.

However, the photoshoot was still fire, and luckily, you can’t see closely enough to realize I am dripping with sweat.

So, seriously if you have the opportunity to make it out to the Lone Star Family Farm on a nice cool day – DO IT! It was a blast even though it was hot as hell.
